First Certified PROFINET Engineers in the UK

In May 2008, the first Certified PROFINET Engineer training course in the UK took place in Manchester. This session was organized by The PROFIBUS Group and PROCENTEC, the PROFINET Competence Centre based in The Netherlands and took place at the PROFIBUS International Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University. 9 participants passed the exam and obtained the Certified Engineer status. In 3-days the students were trained in the disciplines required for PROFINET (engineering, component selection, Ethernet basics, installation, testing and troubleshooting). The most interesting practical assignment was to hook up all the available devices in the training center to one large installation. The participants had to form a team and design/program the network. They required all skills they obtained during the training. A lot of common administrational issues came up such as double IP addresses and device names. At the end they successfully managed to create a large installation with 2 controllers and a lot devices from different manufacturers. Also some PROFIBUS segments were appended through proxies. Due to demand, another PROFINET training course will be organised in the UK later this year. Interested persons should contact The PROFIBUS Group email admin@uk.profibus.com or call 020 7193 8018 for more details.
